Veneers Right

Veneers are an aspect of cosmetic dentistry that has unnecessary shame and fear surrounding it. There is no shame in doing work to your smile so that you can have the best smile possible! We want you to have a smile that makes you want to smile even more. If you are considering getting veneers done, let’s see if they are right for you.

What Are Veneers?

Veneers are tooth-colored shells that sit on the front of your teeth to give your teeth a better look. They can be used to cover up the teeth that aren’t up to your standard and they can be used to protect your teeth from staining and other common tooth problems. The teeth that most commonly get veneers attached to them are the front 8 teeth (the 4 main teeth on the top and bottom.) These are the teeth that are the most visible so some people want to make sure they look the best that they can.

What kind of veneers are there?

There isn’t just one kind of veneer you have to choose from, there is a variety and each has its benefits and looks.

Porcelain – The first kind of veneers you can get are made from porcelain. With these kinds of veneers, dentists will grind down parts of your teeth and create a mold from which they will use to make the veneers. Once the mold is complete, they will fill those molds with porcelain to create the perfect match. Porcelain veneers are cemented in place and are incredibly durable.

Composite – By using resin, many dentists have been liking this new form of veneers to use in cosmetic dentistry. Instead of having to grind down part of your teeth, dentists will etch the surface of your teeth to create a surface that allows the resin to easily stick to. First, a thin layer of composite will be attached to your tooth. More layers will be added depending on what your tooth needs and the kind of look that you want for your teeth.

No-Prep – As the name applies, no-prep veneers are the quickest to apply because they don’t require any preparation. These kinds of veneers are made from different materials depending on what your teeth need and how fast they need to be applied. Dentists don’t have to remove layers of the enamel of your teeth to apply these, instead, these veneers attach right to the enamel of your teeth. These are the quickest to apply and typically don’t require any anesthetic.

What are veneers used for?

If you want to know if veneers are right for you, you should know what kind of circumstances they are used for. Veneers are helpful for many kinds of teeth insecurities or problems that people may have. Veneers are most commonly considered cosmetic dentistry, but there are times when they are there for health reasons as well.

Cracked or Chipped Teeth

Veneers are commonly used to correct and hide cracked or chipped teeth. Many procedures can be done to correct these imperfect teeth, but veneers are a super easy and quick way to correct your teeth so you no longer have to worry about the cracks in your teeth.

Severe Discoloration

Sometimes, people suffer from severe discoloration in their teeth that whitening doesn’t work on. This discoloration can come from years of neglect to brush your teeth and consuming foods/liquids that are staining. Or this discoloration can come from enamel being worn away and showing the darker bone underneath. In these cases, veneers are used to cover up the discoloration and create an even white color across your smile.

Reshaping Your Smile

Dr. Lance Ogata specializes in using veneers in reshaping your smile. If you have uneven-sized teeth for whatever reason. Misshapen or gapped teeth can easily be solved with the help of veneers. If you have teeth that are smaller than average, a veneer can be applied to make the size of the tooth even with your other teeth.

Make Your Smile One You Love

If there is any problem with your teeth that would normally require caps, drilling, or any other invasive procedure to occur, see if veneers would be a good replacement. Veneers are perfect for reshaping your smile into the one you want whether you need to make teeth bigger or fix the color of a tooth.

These cosmetic needs can be solved through veneers and typically require very little time to be done. The longest you will have to wait is if you go through the porcelain veneer route and need to have a lab create the veneers.

Are Veneers Right for You?

Do you have a problem or a desire to change the way your smile looks that matches up with one of the uses of veneers listed above? If so, then veneers could easily be the right path for you. There are some other factors we should take a look at before you make your final decision.

Cost

Veneers may not be the most expensive dental procedure on the market, but they aren’t super inexpensive either. Porcelain veneers can cost you anywhere from $925 to $2500 per tooth. Composite veneers will cost $400 to $2000 per tooth. No-prep veneers vary in price even more.

Durability

Veneers last around 10 years. After that point, you will likely have to get them replaced with new veneers or take a different path for your teeth.

Invasiveness

Veneers aren’t invasive. However, some forms of veneers require the grinding of your teeth for the application process.
